Tehran, Helsinki sign MOU on electricity cooperation

TEHRAN- A memorandum of understanding (MOU) on cooperation in electricity sector was inked by Iranian Energy Minister Hamid Chitchian and Finnish Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Kai Mykkänen in Tehran on Wednesday, IRNA reported.

In the signing ceremony of the MOU, Chitchian referred to Iran’s plan for adding 26,500 megawatts of electricity to its national grid by the next five years and called for contribution of the Finnish companies in this due.

He also mentioned water and wastewater treatment as well as desalination projects the other areas in which Finland can play fruitful role in Iran.

The minister stressed that Iran does not want to buy just products of Finland, while it is willing to receive modern technology.

Chitchian expressed hope that in addition to business to business cooperation between Iran and Finland, cooperation will be also expanded between the two countries’ state-run sectors.

Mykkänen, for his part, announced his country’s readiness to make investment in Iran’s energy sector.

He said Finland is prepared to help Iran in development of renewable energy sector and also implementation of desalination projects.

The Finnish minister expressed hope that taskforces will be set up to put the signed MOU into action as soon as possible.
